  • Firestone Wilderness tires were factually at fault. I had one separate on the highway, on a Crown Vic. Another one had a knot in it. And another used Wilderness tire on another vehicle had a knot in it. Garbage tires. On the other hand, my Firehawk GT Z Pursuit tires on my '06 P71 are badass! 'Merica!

  • I had 1979 Ford Ltd that had had a bad ignition module problem that effected all Fords in that era which made the car stall out at any time , the replacement module the dealer installed was also faulty, I was taking a off ramp on the highway and my cars motor just cut out ,locking up the steering as I was making a turn , I drove into the field that bordered the off ramp and had it towed home , I was lucky that I wasn;t on the highway at high speed with lanes of other cars around me or I might have been killed, That was 1982 and the last Ford I ever owned and refuse to buy another one, I have had plenty of other brands of cars that were junk but none of them tried to kill me.

  • On the Prius recall - the mat would actually get stuck UNDER the accelerator. The edge of it had just enough friction on the "stem" of the pedal to keep it down once pressed. It was horrifying and unpredictable.

  • I have seen 2 mid 90's Isuzu SUV's a Rodeo and a Trooper with the GM V6 that had the inside of the TBI throttle cable melting or something, That would stick the throttle to whatever position it was in when you let off the throttle... The cable itself is coated with a clear plastic coating. But when you pull the cable end out, like you would if you were under heavy acceleration, you would see a black tar/sticky rubber substance on the outside of the clear coated cable. This was acting like bubblegum stuck inside the cable housing and wouldn't let your throttle return back to idle position... Had it happen going up hill going about 70mph. When I went down the other side the Trooper went about 90+. I felt the throttle ease back to proper position after about 3 or so minutes of not having my foot on the pedal. I knew something was holding the throttle open then. About 5 years later a girl I worked with told me about her Rodeo having that experience. Pulled the throttle on the TBI to wide open and there it was, the same black rubber on the clear coated cable...

  • My ex girlfriend had an 1984 Mercury Cougar. I had a 1984 Mustang. At the same time. The steering column headlight dimmer switches would overheat on both cars and finally burn totally out. Luckily they would burn out first in the high beam position (the lights would blink and flicker in the high beam position), just to give you some notice. Then a few weeks later the low beams would totally quit as well. Nice to have in the middle of the night... I replaced 3 switches on both cars within a few year period...

  • How about the Ford SUV/F150 fiasco that I seem to recall where the cruise control unit would stay energized even with the ignition turned off and the key removed from the switch. The cruise control unit would overheat and catch on fire. I witnessed this occur with a Ford Expedition.

  • I'm going to use this episode to justify the existence of the term "Over-educated idiot" .. Mazda-- you think no other industry/manufacturer has had issues with pests in 'vent' lines? All they needed was a damn pneumatic "exhaust diffuser " at the end of the vent line to keep the little buggers from getting in.. under $5 retail for one threaded to fit 1/8 NPT.. done.. vent line can breathe and NOTHING but gasses is getting through. Wonder how much money they threw at this simple $5 issue?? Millions??

  • I recently installed a new floor mat in my car, and had exactly that accelerator issue. Well, even when the accelerator is stuck, you can still use the brake and stop the car with no problem. I wasn't even scared when it happened. I was rather like "oh f..k, something's broken, it's gonna cost me". So I just pulled over, saw it was all the floor mat fault and was very relieved that the car is not really broken.
